The structure was built as part of Callan Commonage Summer School, which gives people with a wide range of backgrounds the opportunity to learn and get involved with construction.

With that in mind, the build-ability of the project became the driving force behind the design. In order for the construction of the project to be accessible to all participants materials were chosen that could be easily handled and lifted by all, including bricks and managable lengths of timber.

The project aimed to give a wide variety of building experiences during construction which encouraged the use of a wide range of building techniques.
